At times I am surprised how people I grew up with or went to school with turned out. At other times I'm not. Some of them are not paragons of intelligence and some of them should never have children. Honestly, they shouldn't. It's not that 'they should never breed' kind of thing. It's that 'they're a danger to their own children' kind of thing. I'm not being sarcastic. Then again, perhaps this is watching evolution in action. The stupid take their own genes out of the gene pool, thereby raising the intelligence of those around them. I know that's probably not nice, but it's the fucking truth. In the past 3 days alone I have had the god shit and some pretty stupid shit with god shit thrown up on my Facebook page. I keep my mouth shut however. I don't make it a habit to talk to all that many people on there and if I do initiate a conversation, I will be drug into their unending Facebook drama bullshit. No thank you. I've cut down on that kind of annoyance and I don't want it to start elsewhere.
Monday night, I had left a few comments for my younger sister M, along with a picture or two and saw this up on my wall.
Honey, if your baby is running a fever of 102.6 and vomiting you don't need to be begging on Facebook for some bullshit prayers. You need to take your lazy ass to the hospital and get her taken care of before some brain damage sets in. Then again, it may be too late. She does have you for a mother. You say you keep giving it to each other? Then you need to get your ass checked out too. You probably both need flu shots and need to quit running around all the time with the sick baby and act like a fucking parent. If you couldn't handle that role, it's obvious daddy couldn't he ran off when you said the magic word of pregnant, you should have not had the kid at all or fucking put it up for adoption if you couldn't handle it. Making sure your kid's brain doesn't get fried by a fever is part of being a responsible parent. You obviously aren't. You didn't take the kid to a doctor. You asked for prayers. Sorry. I'm not a mother. I would have taken the kid regardless because I'm not a braindead moron. I'll be surprised if the kid makes it to adulthood at this rate.
And this posting shit as your status and trying to get others into your hivemind activity by trying to make them feel guilty for not posting your bullshit annoys the piss out of me. I don't care if you worship a fucking blue crayon in a pile of horseshit under the full fucking moon. Shoving it in everyone's face, especially if they don't worship a blue crayon in horseshit in the middle of the night isn't going to make you any friends. You're annoying the piss out of people. Seriously. And when you do post shit like that, please make certain you know how to use at least some kind of spell and grammar check.
No, no takers here. I don't believe any of that shit. And it's obvious that you cut and pasted it. I'm surprised your sentence didn't end with the time the last person posted it, like I see all the time. Most christards capitalize the bible and Satan actually. Then again, people who believe their faith is strengthened by this kind of bullshit on Facebook are just as sad as the person who posted about praying for their soon to be brain-damaged child.
And spare me the bullshit faith healing. Please.
So everyone but cancer patients wish for lots of things? I'm sorry but people with cancer do not spend their entire life focused only on their illness. There are other things besides their illness that are important to them. You're damn right that 97% of people aren't going to post that bullshit. It's bullshit, pure and simple and has no basis in reality. Thank you everyone who didn't contribute to this idiocy. You know what, you may think everyone you know will repost this shit, but you're wrong. You're the only one I saw posting it. And putting that shit up for an hour does nothing. If you want to help people who have cancer, donate some money to the American Cancer Society Volunteer your time to assist those with cancer. Raise money for cancer research. Don't post some bullshit for an hour on Facebook degrading those with cancer. Yeah, it's fucking degrading. Having cancer does not define the person and make them a sad wretch that just lies around saying 'Oh woe is me! I have cancer!'. You aren't honoring a damn person by this nonsense. And thank god your dad is still fighting? Jesus made his wish of not having cancer come true? Didn't you just fucking contradict yourself? He's fighting cancer, but his wish of not having it came true. Does not fucking compute. Either he has it or not. I've got a better idea. Why don't all you faith healing morons just bypass going to doctors all together. You pray to get better and don't bother with any of the benefits of science anymore. Then the people who aren't deluded by the bullshit will have an easier time getting in to see a doctor and the morticians will be a lot happier with the increase in demand for their services.
I am lax in putting this up. It's not because I've been pondering what to say about it. Like everything that's been going on in the past year with @RelUnrelated's cancer diagnosis and the general shit that's come along with it to make life even more miserable results of the CT scan that he had to have two-thirds of the way through his chemo are to see how effective the treatment has been. Considering he's gained all the weight back that he lost and a little more, his color is no longer jaundiced, and he's not running very high fevers and vomitting constantly, I'd say that chances are the treatment was going quite well.
We waited for awhile because we were early, he had to have chemo that day and the doctor herself came out to call him back for the pre-chemo check over and to tell him the results. She apologized that the nurse hadn't come out sooner, they were running a bit behind. She sat us down in the office and started out with, "You got an A on your test!" So yeah, as now, he has only two more sessions of chemotherapy left. No radiation. That doesn't mean that all this is over. No. There will be years of scans and check ups and follow ups to make sure that the rapidly shrinking lymphoma is staying that way. And that's fine. At least we'll know what the hell is going on. It looks like everything is going to be better.
I haven't talked much about it since May. There really hasn't been that much to say. He's had appointments and treatments and medicines and has been getting better and better. Looking at him, you wouldn't know he's going through chemotherapy. His hair is coming back. It has been for the last month and it looks like he has a buzz cut. After finding out what was going on and learning about the process that one has to go through to try and stop the disease, it was like a weight off my shoulders. He has a very curable form of cancer and we were lucky for that. I didn't pray or ask anyone to. I didn't need to. I knew what we were doing was the only thing that would have any impact on his illness. No magical sky fairy could make any difference. If I wanted fantasy, I would pick up a book or watch a movie. We did what helped. We went to doctors and got proven treatment for an illness that no amount of whispering to yourself can fix. The medications have worked and for that I am glad. I am glad to have had such a kick ass team of doctors and nurses at the cancer center that would probably bend over backwards to help the patients that they treat and their families. Those people and the science behind the medications are what has done the job on they lymphoma. That's the only thing that will.
I won't say that people didn't say they were praying. I didn't make fun of them, because the majority of them were family members. Most were not close family members. I think only distant cousins ever said they would pray for us. My immediate family didn't. My parents who were a great help didn't. My brother who is living in another state now didn't. They just came and helped with whatever they could. My oldest stepdaughter did say she was going to pray and put her dad's name down on some prayer lists and that she knew we would laugh about it. She was just worried about her dad and that's fine. She knows that her dad and I are not religious at all. She's also not crazy fundie about it either, nor would she ever try to force those views on us. She's a good kid that was worried and I cannot fault her for that. She loves her dad and doesn't want anything to happen to him. I don't want anything to happen to him either, otherwise I wouldn't have stayed with him for the last 15 years.
So the good news is that it looks like the lymphoma is going bye-bye. We can't say that for certain until it's been 5 years. And having gone through chemotherapy also makes his chances of getting another cancer a little higher as he gets older. I'm not going to spend my life worrying about that though. No one is immune to disease. I'm going to enjoy the time we have because that's all we have. There's no grand afterlife or heaven or hell or rebirth. You live and then you die. It's the part that's between those two that are the most important. Enjoy them while you can.
Yeah, another day at work, sitting at the desk waiting for something to happen, whether it be the telephone or a resident needing something. They do educate you sometimes and not just in ways that are probably parts of getting old that you'd really not have to know about. Today, they surprised me quite a bit and I almost asked if they had suddenly joined NORML. Yup, in the middle of Bingo, one of the ladies asked when I could come up and help her repot her plant that I had offered to do. She's mid-fifties. One of the other ladies at the table asked what kind of plant. The first lady laughed and said "marijuana". A third lady, also mid-fifties said she was going to start hanging out in the first lady's room. It went downhill from there into jokes between the four ladies about getting the munchies. Oh how surprising they are at times. It's not every day you hear a little old lady say: "Oh yeah, I've heard about grandkids going out to score weed for their grannies." Yeah, they're cool like that sometimes. The lady in her 80's just moved out here from California recently and was telling the other women about medical marijuana being legal and how it was grown and permits that were needed, how people got prescriptions, and how it seems to help a lot of sick people. They asked me then if someone smoked it while they had cancer, does it control the nausea or just give them the munchies so they eat better. I told them honestly, probably a little of both and pain relief. It's nice to know that they all had a pretty positive attitude about it and said that they just need to quick messing around and let the legalization laws pass so that sick people could have relief. I thought it was pretty cool.
I also was having a discussion with one of the younger residents here last night about TV shows that we watched when we were kids. He is older than me by more than a dozen years and didn't really watch a lot of cartoons or shows like that when growing up. Someone mentioned Ultraman yesterday and of course, I was like "fuck yeah Ultraman!". This resident had no idea what I was talking about so I mentioned one of the more recent Ultraman movies. The title alone boggled his mind so I had to bring up the trailer for it on YouTube and educate him on the awesome that is the Ultraman galaxy. So he got to see parts of Mega Monster Battle Ultra Galaxy Legend The Movie. Yes, it is a mouthful, but damn is there a lot of awesome in that movie. Of course then he asked if Warner Brothers were going to release it in the US. I told him that I wasn't sure. He seemed kind of disappointed and said that people watch so much stupid stuff on television and decent stuff like that never gets shown. He didn't know that Ultraman did air on television in the states. Of course, this isn't the same Ultraman that aired, it's much newer and the effects are better, but in the end, it's still guys in rubber suits fighting other guys in rubber suits and that is the formula that has made Godzilla and other Tokusatsu shows so damn awesome. I don't need flashy effects. I don't need Michael Bay Transformer bullshit. Give me some good old rubber suit fighting kids shows and I'm happy. So I will share that little taste of awesome. Enjoy.
Thank you for the kind suggestion on Twitter. Today shouldn't just be a follow Friday where you tweet about people that you think are worth following. There should be special day set aside for telling people to fuck off as well. My entire workplace with the exception of a very tiny handful is full of hypocritical assholes that would rather set you on fire than say good morning. Unless they want something and then they suck up to you as fast as possible. So to you, all of you special assholes at the Clusterfuck Arms, I give you a mighty, FUCK YOU.
Another evening at work, biding my time behind the desk until I can leave. The lobby is empty save myself and one of our younger residents, actually younger than I am. She's on her laptop playing on some Transformers webchat. Don't ask. It's roleplaying. Usually, I just flick through shit on my phone, but after a massive troll thread I lul'd at earlier, my battery is almost dead. I don't dare look at that shit on the work computer either. It's NSFW. So anyway... I was flicking through YouTube, bored and just typed in Cthulhu on a whim because I've been reading some Lovecraft before bed the past few nights. I heard there was supposed to be some fucking bullshit Nyarlothotep, but moeshit anime starting up that's supposed to be super cutesy or something. Didn't see anything like that, I would have had to choke a bitch probably, but I did find some old videos a guy made with a Cthulhu puppet. It's a call-in radio show and from the one I saw it was humorous. So I thought I'd share.
So another week at work starts off with a bang. I got treated like shit by a co-worker for a joke, that happened last week. Obviously the man has no sense of humor. And is very mature. He wouldn't even look at me or address me and scurried out the door like his ass was on fire. But hey, it's Monday and I have 60 hours to be in this place this week. I'm not going to let the assholes piss me off or bother me. I'd rather piss them off, it's more fun that way.
Less than 15 minutes later, I got jumped by our resident schizophrenic/epileptic who refuses to take her medications. You see, the pills aren't right. So she won't take them. And then she has seizures. Because we don't give her the medicine, but we do, but it's wrong. Yeah. It's like that. She wanted to speak to my boss, who just had open heart surgery last Thursday. She just got released from the hospital and won't be back to work for some time. So I told her that. She said she had to talk to someone about this problem with the medicines. I told her that she could talk to me about it because I'm going to be the one setting up the medicines while the boss is gone. And by the way, you need to go to the pharmacy and pick up those prescriptions you refused to fill. She didn't like that. I wasn't trying to appease her. And I'm still not. She said she would talk to me after breakfast. That's cool. You're not going to piss me off today. No one will.
After she hemmed and hawwed, trying to think of a strategy to use against my impeccable armor of "U mad?" she finally came down an hour and half later. She went with me into the office, carrying her medicines that I had given her at breakfast. She asked if I was going to sit down. I told her no, I was just fine standing up. She didn't like that. I told her she could sit if she wanted to, but I was more than happy to stand up. She grunted and then told me that she shouldn't be talking to me about medicine because I don't know a thing about medications because I wasn't an RN. Logic fail. I've been doling you out your medications since you moved in here years ago. I can tell you what each pill is by just looking at it and telling you what it's for. You have no clue as to what you're taking or what they're even for, which is why you've only been taking one of your anti-seizure medications and leaving the other in the cup and walking away from them. I know what the medications are that I'm giving people. I need to know so if there is an error, I can catch it and correct it. That's common sense and a safety issue. I don't want to give someone the wrong medication and have something bad happen to them.
So I told her that perhaps if she actually took her medications, then she wouldn't have the seizures and would feel better, she got mad. She said that I wasn't letting her talk. I told her to go right ahead and talk. She said that she didn't want the medicines because they weren't right. She went to the pharmacy and told them that too. Uh huh. So I informed her, after retrieving the pill bottles that if she didn't like the way that we do things, that she could take care of her medications her self. I put the bag of pills on the desk in front of her. She was stunned. Didn't think I'd call your bluff again, did ya? She said "I'm a patient here!" To which I said, "We don't have patients here. We're not a medical facility." So she countered with "I'm a resident here!" And I said, that she isn't the only one and if she wasn't happy that she could take care of her own medications since we obviously were not doing them to her satisfaction. To which she said "I'm moving out." Of course, that doesn't work on me. I told her "Don't forget your medicines then."
She didn't know what to say then. Which is fine, at that point she's wasting my time that I could be elsewhere, actually doing something of import. She then demanded to know what medicines were used to control her seizures. I asked her then, if I didn't know about her medications, how could I tell her that. HA HA! She was not happy. To which I held up the cup of medications. I took the first one. This is your depakote. It is used to control your seizures. Next pill, a greenish blue capsule, tegretol, used to control seizures. Pale blue capsule, Prozac, 20 mg. You take 3 of them in the morning. It's for your bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia. You're not helping yourself by ignoring the medication. White capsule, geodon, also used to for your schizophrenia. Second white capsule, smaller, hydrochlorothyazide, a diuretic. Of course she took her depakote and tegretol and stomped out. That's fine. At least she took SOMETHING. And as of Sunday night, she'll be completely out of depakote.
So what does this have to do with music? Well, I surely wasn't mad or mildly annoyed when she threw her fit, I was amused. It took me every ounce of strength to not say "U mad?" to her more than once. Oh well, it's one of those days. And for days like this, you need some Dir en grey. Some bouncy, fuck you Dir en grey.
My little sister and I have pretty close taste in music a lot of the time, and definitely close taste in movies, but not necessarily manga and anime. She gave me a good laugh the other night when she posted this video up on Facebook. All I could think of was: NERDS! I love the touristy taking pictures of everything, but the drummer is the best. Thanks M for some hilarious Acid Black Cherry doing Spell Magic.
